What Are The Different Types of Dentures?

Did you know that dentures have been around for thousands of years and have been worn by people worldwide? They were even used during the Roman Empire! Dentures are a normal part of life for many people and can help you look and feel normal again if you’ve lost your teeth. They can also help you eat and speak, which is why they’ve been so popular throughout history.

There are many different types of dentures available, depending on your situation. Your dentist can help you choose the correct set that will work best for you. So, if you’ve been thinking about getting dentures, know that you’re not alone and that many options are available to help you regain your confidence and quality of life.

Full Dentures

When the word “dentures” is mentioned, most people think of full dentures, which are used to replace an entire row, or both rows, of a patient’s teeth. To make this type of denture, we must create a custom mold that fits your gums perfectly. If there are any remaining teeth in your mouth, we may need to remove them before making the denture. Once your dentures are ready, we will use an adhesive to keep them in place throughout the day. You should remove and clean your dentures every night.

Partial Dentures

It is not always necessary to replace all your teeth with dentures when you have missing teeth. If you only have a few teeth are missing, partial dentures may be a suitable option. These dentures not only help restore the natural look of your teeth but also prevent your remaining teeth from shifting out of position and becoming crooked. Partial dentures consist of (1) a pink artificial root that matches the color of your gums, (2) false teeth to replace the missing ones, and (3) sometimes a clip or wire to hold everything in place.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are a type of denture that offers a more secure foundation for your new smile. This style of denture typically utilizes four titanium posts surgically implanted into your jawbone. Over time, these posts fuse to the bone, creating a strong and stable base for your dentures. Unlike traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures can be quickly snapped in and out for cleaning and do not require the use of adhesive. Although implant-supported dentures’ fitting and preparation process is more involved than traditional dentures, their convenience and comfort are well worth it.
